We earn the nickname “refrigeration pioneer” for installing the first air-conditioning system in town. Residential contracting work sees us through the Depression and the postwar housing boom.

Harry Bynum, Lynell’s son, becomes president of Standard Electric. He reorganizes the company and changes the name to SE&M Constructors to better identify us as a full-service mechanical, electrical, and plumbing contractor. We complete our first project greater than $6 million.

We relocate to a more modern facility in Elm City, conveniently located between Rocky Mount and Wilson, NC. Our new location provides improved efficiency in the office and more warehouse space for state-of-the-art equipment and fabrication capabilities, all to better serve our customers.
